AI standards form the fundamental building blocks for AI technology and product development by establishing consistent protocols that can be universally understood and adopted. It simplifies product development and drives compatibility and interoperability. As AI standards become globally adopted and applied in many markets, they fuel international collaboration and information exchange, accelerating technological advancement.

As a public innovation intermediary driving Singapore’s industry’s adoption of AI,  AI Singapore actively participates in international standards bodies, including (International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the IEEE Standards Association.

Standards Associations

AI Standards - ISO
AI Standards - IEEE

Through these participations,  we keep abreast of developments and work with the Singapore standards council on recommending AI standards for adoption by our local industries or localised Singapore standards to be relevant for our companies. This helps to reduce the complexity and risk of companies in adopting AI and speed up AI technology diffusion into Singapore’s industries.

AI Technical Committee (AITC)

The Technical Committee was formed in July 2019 to recommend the adoption of relevant international AI standards for Singapore, support the development of new AI standards where necessary or applicable, and promote awareness of AI standards. The TC represents Singapore as a ‘Participating’ member in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 on ‘Artificial Intelligence.

AITC has contributed to the development and publication of two standards:

  • ISO/IEC TR 24030 : 2021 Information Technology – Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Use Cases (link)
  • Singapore Standards TR 99 : 2021 Artificial intelligence (AI) security – Guidance for assessing and defending against AI security threats (link)
