Simplifying Admin Processes with TagUI Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

A common issue shared by businesses is spending copious amounts of time on repetitive administrative work. Staff can spend up to days performing the same tasks, costing companies the opportunity to transfer their resources to focus on other important assignments. Faced with this business challenge, CA Trust — a company offering audit, tax and advisory services to SMEs, MNCs, government and non-profit organizations — turned to AI as a solution.

Previously, their staff had to spend many days to perform tasks such as extracting and processing customer information from the CRM and accounting software as well as populating and sending out engagement letters to complete their customers’ on boarding process. Having engaged a few interns from a local polytechnic in November 2019, AISG’s open source TagUI Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tool was implemented as a solution to simplify the processes involved. The tool is capable of automating key repetitive tasks such as information extraction and sending out engagement letters to clients. Alongside the interns, AISG provided consultancy and support services to assist the team with the implementation of the AI tool.

The outcomes of the collaboration successfully shortened preparation time from 48 hours to just 2 hours and freed up company staff to invest their attention in other key tasks such as client engagement. On top of all that, the AI solution managed to incur cost savings for the organization.

“We are glad to know about RPA TagUI, the very first RPA tool which we use to automate some of our routine processes. Digital automation not only improves productivity and efficiency, it also enhances our staff’s working experience. I would like to thank AISG for arranging the internship and providing the guidance to our firm and team members in the journey towards adopting RPA technology for our traditional auditing work.”

AI Singapore’s Inaugural AI Bootcamp for Kids

AI Singapore welcomed more than 60 Primary 5 and 6 children to the inaugural AI for Kids Bootcamp on 2 February 2019. Laurence Liew, Director of AI Industry Innovation, kick-started the Bootcamp with a note of encouragement to the children to pursue their interests in technology and AI.

The energy emitted from the children was visibly infectious on a bright and early Saturday morning. Two graduates from the AI Apprenticeship Programme (AIAP) Batch 1 took to the stage to explain the concepts of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, using course materials created by NUS High School students for students.

The children were also introduced to the concept of Computer Vision. They learnt about the incorporation of its capabilities with the Scratch programming language through Microsoft Cognitive Services, in the form of a Rock-Scissors-Paper program. Some kids had a go at training a car to recognize how to turn left through a game developed by one of our apprentices.

After a tea break, it was time for the children to shine. They were tasked with a hands-on project session using provided extensions with AI capabilities, to gain experience in building AI-centric programmes from scratch. At the end of the hands-on session, certificates were issued to the future AI engineers/scientists for taking their first step in the field of AI.

The inaugural AI for Kids Bootcamp was fully run by the AI Apprentices from Batch 1 of the AI Apprenticeship Programme (AIAP) as one of their contributions to the future of AI in Singapore.

Newly Launched – “AI for Students” Programme

AI Singapore has launched a new programme “AI for Students” as part of our efforts to enable the next generation of AI talents. This was announced today in a MoU signed with DataCamp, a leading online learning platform for Data Science.

As part of the MoU, DataCamp will provide access to their online data learning platform to all full time students who are currently enrolled in government / government-aided secondary schools and Post-Secondary Education Institutes (PSEI) of Singapore at no cost. Educators can use DataCamp to conduct training for full time students (up to undergraduates) only. AI Singapore will facilitate and coordinate the access of the DataCamp platform under this initiative.
