Leveraging AI for Healthy Ageing

Singapore and New Zealand are launching a joint grant call to fund research on Leveraging AI for Healthy Ageing. The aim is to foster scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from both countries in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and Healthcare.

The joint grant call focuses on applied research that can lead to practical healthcare applications and the development of new products and services to address the challenge problem:

“How can AI help enhance health outcomes (including brain health) for older individuals at risk of age-related conditions”

The call seeks novel, scalable, cost-effective AI solutions to address age-related conditions (especially neurological and mental health conditions) among older people, supporting healthcare providers to deliver better health outcomes. The goal is to extend healthy years of life, enable personalised care, develop preventative strategies and facilitate the long-term management of various conditions – reducing healthcare burden, addressing the wider societal impacts of ageing, and improving the quality of life for the older population.

Sub-topics of interest to SG and NZ:

  • AI to detect cognitive decline and degenerative neurological conditions (e.g. Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s)
  • AI for mental health and wellbeing (depression, anxiety and social isolation)
  • AI for age-related risk factors for poor health
  • Interactions between brain health and the immune system (e.g. microbiome)

Other novel proposals for AI solutions to support Healthy Ageing are welcome.
